The Day My Life Changed~August 10, 2003

On August 6, 2003 (which was my due date) I went to see my Dr and was told that I was ONLY 1cm and that if I did not go into Labor before the following week that they would induce me on August 13, 2003. My Daddy's Birthday is August 8th and so is Alannah's paternal Grandfather's Birthday...I so wanted to have her either on the 7th (mine and her daddy's 10th wedding anniversary) or the the 8th to give her grandfathers a Special Gift...HER. Alannah is my ONLY Biological Daughter and I had waited along time to be a mommy. I awoke on Friday, August 8, 2003 vomitting and not feeling well, but waited until later that afternoon to go to the hospital to see what was going on. I had had a Wonderful Pregnancy and loved being pregnant with this precious child, but I was so ready to meet her and hold her. Tonda, my Goddaughter took me to a local Emergency room to see a Dr, because I was to deliver my baby in Savannah and was not sure if I was in labor or had a virus. They hooked me up to the monitors and I was having contracts but they were not regular and I could not feel them. The Dr kept me there until about 10:30 that night, because my husband was on his way home from working out of state (Alabama) and I needed to be picked up. I could not get behind the wheel of a vehicle my tummy was way to big lol. They said I had a virus. I signed the discharge papers once my mama and husband arrived and was getting up to leave when my water broke...lol man oh man...that was alot of water. I called the nurse back in but she said I had just "wet" the bed, but time was going to say different. Around 2:30am on August 9, 2003 I went to hurting with pains like I have never felt before. We had no home phone at the time so I woke my husband up and had him run next door to call 911. The ambulance arrived and the EMTs told me I was in active labor and that they would have to take me back to that local hospital that told me I "wet" the bed....oh no you are not I told them lol. So I had my husband call my best friend and coach "Jill" ( she was a labor and delivery nurse at the time) and because she thought I had a virus she said she would be at my house in the morning....so I had my husband call my mama..lol no one answered at my parents house....so he came back and and tried to console me cause I was not going no where without my mama and Jill. I got in the shower to try and ease the pains..to no avail did it come. Brandy and Harvey Beecher lived two doors down and he worked as an EMT at the time. Around 9:00am he came down to see how I was and seen I was in labor and started timing my contractions...lol thought I was going to have my baby right there at home waiting on my mama and Jill. My contractions were 4 minutes apart when they were regular. Finally, about 9:45am my mama came and Harvey told my mama that I need to go since we had to drive about 72 miles to the hospital.  So my husband got everything loaded in mama's Explorer and here we go...lol I had told her if she sped I would get out and walk, but Lord knows that pain will make you say and do otherwise. She got me to Memorial University in Savannah, GA around 11:10am, August 9, 2003 after running 70 down Hwy 144 through Ft. Stewart, Ga. I promise if an MP had stopped her I would have probably tried to kill him lol.  The nurse came out with a wheelchair to get me and once in a room I was told no eppi could be giving at that time because they were in with another laboring mama so they gave me a shot of Stadol and Phenergan. That was enough to ease the contractions and I felt I did not need an Eppi, but when they did come in I was dilated 6cm and told if I did not get it then that it would be to late very shortly, so I agreed to have  it done. Never again..my worst mistake..lol it slowed my contractions down!!! I was given the Eppi around 12:45pm and waited and waited and waited...around 11:15pm I was told I could start pushing. About Time!!! :) At 12:24am, August 10, 2003 the MOST Precious baby girl I had ever seen came into this World. Those present for her birth were her...Daddy, Mammaw, Aunt Jill, Uncle Roger, and Sissy Tonda. Jill and Roger Phillips are Alannah's God parents.
